Spotted parked at Cardiff West Services was this Plaxton Leopard bodied coach, belonging to Taf Valley Coaches of Whitland, Carmarthenshire. This is a regular 12 metre coach but with a standard floor, making it's height just 3.2m tall. Nowadays most coaches have a high floor which gives increased luggage capacity and a higher seating position for the passengers to look out of the windows. However, these high floor coaches come with increased body height, 3.5m and taller with results in increased fuel consumption. Also this Plaxton Leopard body offers a much lower weight which results in much lower fuel consumption. This coach has an unladen weight of 11,645 kg which is light compared to the 13,570 kg of a National Express Caetano Levante bodied Volvo B9R with 48 seats. 2 tonnes is a lot of extra weight to push up and down the motorways of the UK.
